もう少し環境につっこまれた質問がきたときに、、、

what are problems created by weather?
The only way to save environment is for Goverments to impose strict quotas on the energy we use, do you agree?
energy crisis - nuclear power energy should be most suitable alternative energy source?
what causes enviromental problems?
what can we do to prevent environmental degradation? etc

[causes]

1. factories burn fossil fuels (coal, gas and oil) which produce acid rain (acid rain kills trees), at the same time, green house gases (carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, methane etc) rise into air and contribute to global warming

2. farmers clear huge areas of rain forest (deforestation) (good quality virgin hard wood) in places such as the Amazon in developing countries to produce feeding land for cattles or produce wood for building for a short-term financial gain. No activity affects more of the earth's surface than farming. It shapes a third of the planet's land area and proportion is rising...pesticides and chemical fertilisers, soil erosion (more intensive farming, the abandonment of fallow period, mono-culture, using only high-yielding crops- disappearance of old varieties), (agricultural excesses)

3. industrial waste as well as household waste are contaminated in rivers and oceans (industrial excesses)

4. cars pump out poisonous exhaust gases (include private cars)

5. poaching and overfishing are killing off millions of animals

6. personal greed

7. poverty especially in developing world

8. artificially diverting massive amount of water (large dam hydro-electric turbine) - shrinking of natural lakes and rivers

-in fact all around us all living things large and small which comprise our finely balanced ecosystem are being sytematically destroyed by human greed and thoughtlessness

[possible solution]

1. recycle waste materials such as paper and glass (bottle bank)

2. high-tech solutions safer waste disposal, biodegradable packaging which decomposes easily

3. cheaper organic fruit and vegetables which have been naturally caltivated, world food production should move from western Europe to regions where poorer, such as the former communist countries and developing world. The intensity of the rich world should decline, and the use of chemical input should diminish.

4. use small cars that uses less amopunt of petrol, and use unleaded petrol, cleaner/ more efficient cars

5. less private cars more use of public transport

6. less heavy vehicles for transportating goods

7. listen environmentalists (watchdog organisations as Greenpeace and the World Wildlife Fund) opinion, aware of the global issues and conservation programmes,

8. planned city like green belts around our towns and cities free from new building

9. stricter legislation (govenment) banning of the production of substances which interfere with key eco-processes such as those which deplete the ozone layer. the role of governments in environmental management is huge - farm price support, protection of national industry...

10. alternaive energy (nuclear power- can produce thousands of times as much as what one kilogram coal or oil can generate - but nuclear power produce the radioactive rubbish)

11. vote political parties such as "green" party
